Privacy Policy My Budget Book

In short: your financial data stays on your devices and, if you want, in your private iCloud. The developer receives no data from the app. This policy matches the text in the app (Settings → Information → Privacy Policy). For this website, the general privacy policy applies.

Visiting this website: audience measurement and hosting

Notice about tracking: When you open this page, your visit is counted anonymously with GoatCounter (audience measurement). GoatCounter sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Your IP address is not stored. Only the page visited, the referring page (referrer), browser, operating system, approximate country, language and screen size are recorded. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an overview of page views).

This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Server log files are created for technical reasons. Details on GoatCounter, hosting and your right to object are in the general privacy policy of this website. This measurement concerns only the visit to the website, not the use of the app.

2. Data Processing in the App

My Budget Book stores all data – accounts, transactions, budgets, categories and settings – locally on your device. We as the developer do not receive any of this data. Data is only transmitted to third parties in the cases described below (iCloud, exchange rates), and only if you use the respective feature. If you wish, the app makes accounts and transactions available to your device's Spotlight search; this index is kept exclusively on the device.

3. iCloud Sync (optional)

iCloud sync is disabled by default. If you enable it in Settings, your data is stored encrypted in your private iCloud database (CloudKit). We as the developer have no access to this data; Apple's own privacy terms apply.

4. Exchange Rates

If you use accounts or amounts in another currency or the currency calculator, the app retrieves current reference rates (European Central Bank rates) from the Frankfurter service (api.frankfurter.dev). For technical reasons, your IP address, the requested currency codes and common connection data are transmitted to the service or its hosting provider, possibly also to a country outside the EU. No transactions, amounts or account data are transmitted. Without foreign currencies, no request is made. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR (providing the feature you use).

5. Apple Watch, Widgets and Notifications

Widgets and the Apple Watch app receive their data exclusively from your iPhone (via a shared on-device storage area or the direct connection between iPhone and Apple Watch). Budget alerts are created as local notifications on your device; no server is involved. Siri and Shortcuts process requests under Apple's terms.

6. Backups

Manual and automatic backups are stored encrypted at the location you choose or in the app's storage on your device. We have no access to them.

7. App Lock (Face ID, Touch ID, Passcode)

The optional app lock relies exclusively on your device's own biometric or passcode check. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

8. Migration from the Previous App

When switching from the previous app, My Budget Book only reads the local database on your device. No data is transmitted to any server.

In addition, under “Old App Files” the app lists the files that the previous app left on your device and in its iCloud Drive folder (for example old backups and exports). To do this, the app only reads the list of these files; a file is deleted only if you explicitly confirm it. No data is transmitted to us in this process either.

9. CSV Import, Export and Sharing

Imported and exported files remain on your device, or are only shared to a destination you explicitly choose via your device's share sheet.

9a. Receipts (Camera and Photos)

You can attach receipt photos to transactions – via camera scan or from your photo library. The app only accesses the camera or the photos you select when you actively use this feature. Receipts are stored locally together with your transactions and – only if iCloud sync is enabled – in your private iCloud database. They are never shared with us or third parties.

9b. Location (Optional)

If you turn on “Save location” when entering a transaction, the app asks for permission to use your location and saves the coordinates with that transaction. Without this setting or without your permission, no location is determined. The location is stored locally and – only if iCloud sync is turned on – in your private iCloud database; we never receive it. The expense map uses Apple Maps: your device loads map data from Apple, and Apple’s privacy policy applies. You can revoke the permission at any time in your device’s settings.

10. External Links

Under Settings > About, this app contains links to our other apps and to our homepage. The linked provider's website (App Store, our homepage) only opens once you actively tap such a link. From that point on, that provider's own privacy policy applies. Merely displaying a link or button in the app does not transmit any data to Apple or other external providers.

11. No Analytics or Advertising

My Budget Book uses no tracking SDKs, analytics services, or third-party advertising.

12. Contacting Us

If you contact us by email, we process the information you provide solely to handle your request. The data is deleted once it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.

13. Your Rights and Deletion

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have in particular the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing, data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia.

You delete your local data by deleting the app or by choosing "Delete All Transactions" in Settings. You manage and delete data stored in iCloud in your device's iCloud settings.
