Version 1.0 · Effective: November 2026
In short: No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no developer server. Your activities stay on your devices and, only if you turn it on, in your own iCloud account. Heart rate, calories, body data and everything calculated from them are never part of iCloud sync and are never sent to the developer.
This privacy policy applies specifically to the OneTwo Sports app (“12 Sports” on your home screen, formerly OneTwo Running, merged with OneTwo Bike; iPhone and Apple Watch) and supplements the general privacy policy of this website, which covers visiting the website itself.
Visiting this website: audience measurement and hosting
Notice about tracking: When you open this page, your visit is counted anonymously with GoatCounter (audience measurement). GoatCounter sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Your IP address is not stored. Only the page visited, the referring page (referrer), browser, operating system, approximate country, language and screen size are recorded. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an overview of page views).
This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Server log files are created for technical reasons. Details on GoatCounter, hosting and your right to object are in the general privacy policy of this website. This measurement concerns only the visit to the website, not the use of the app.

2. Basic principle
OneTwo Sports processes your data on your device. The developer runs no server of their own; there is no user account, no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party analytics or crash SDKs and no tracking across apps or websites. The app does not transmit any data to the developer.
Data only leaves your device in the cases described below: through Apple services (Maps, place names, weather, Apple Health, optional iCloud sync, device backup), when you export, and when you write to support.
3. Data the app stores on your device
- Activities: sport (on foot or by bike), start and end, duration and pauses, route as a series of location points with time, accuracy and altitude, distance, pace, elevation gain, steps and cadence (on foot), distance uphill and downhill (mountain bike), name, note, tags and color marks.
- Perceived effort (optional): a number from 0 to 10 per activity that you enter when saving or editing.
- Weather at the start (with “Weather”): temperature, feels-like temperature, wind and conditions per activity.
- Route photos: image file (re-encoded on saving, without GPS data in the file) plus location and heading in the app's database.
- Heart rate (only with “Use Health Heart Rate” turned on or with Apple Watch): heart rate series, average and maximum per activity.
- Body data (optional): weight, year of birth, sex, resting and maximum heart rate, entered by you or taken from Apple Health (section 5), and the weight of your road or mountain bike (stored as a snapshot per activity).
- Calculated values: active energy (calories), time in heart rate zones and training load, effort load, walking time to DIN 33466 with a personal factor, statistics and personal bests. Estimated power, grade, climbs and grade-adjusted pace are recalculated from the route whenever shown and are not stored.
- Goals and settings, including units, color theme, language and the switches for Health and notifications.
If a measurement is missing, the app stores no substitute value. Heart rate is never estimated from other values.
The data is kept in the app's protected storage (file protection until first unlock after restart). The app's logs contain no locations, no heart rate values and no body data.
4. Location, map, place names and weather
The app uses your location to record the route of a recording you started, even with the screen locked. During a recording, iOS shows the location indicator. Outside a recording, the app only uses your location to show your position under “Map” while it is open, for the weather (see below) and for the emergency strip at the top of the app (can be turned off under Settings, Emergency numbers): it works out on the device, without internet, which country you are in and shows its emergency numbers (stored in the app for 119 countries) and your position to read out; nothing is stored or sent, and the app never dials by itself. “While Using the App” is enough for recording. The app offers “Always” once after an explanation; this is optional and can be declined.
From your location, the app also calculates on the device, without internet, the way back along your own track, sunset and the turnaround time (section 7).
Apple Maps: The map needs an internet connection; iOS loads the visible map area from Apple. The app itself does not transmit routes.
Place names: If you choose the name suggestion “Place” when saving (the default is “Date”), iOS sends the starting point of the activity to Apple's geocoding service to obtain a place name. With “Weather”, the app also asks it for the place and country of the weather on “Today”, using the same location rounded to about one kilometer.
Weather (Apple Weather): If “Weather” is on in Settings (the default), the app requests the weather from Apple Weather (WeatherKit) when you open “Today”, when you open the forecast and when a recording starts. It first rounds your location to two decimal places, about one kilometer; your exact location does not leave the device. Without location permission, the app does not ask. The weather at the start (temperature, wind, conditions) is stored with the activity on this device only, not in iCloud sync and not in exports. If you turn “Weather” off, no request takes place.
5. Apple Health and health data
Heart rate, body data and the values calculated from them are health data within the meaning of Art. 9 GDPR. The app only uses Apple Health if you explicitly allow it: there are two separate switches under Settings › Recording, both off by default, plus the iOS permission sheet in which you can allow or deny each data type. While both switches are off, the app neither reads from nor writes to Health.
“Use Health Heart Rate” reads from Health:
- heart rate, for the live display, heart rate chart, calories and zones,
- weight, date of birth (the app uses your age), biological sex and resting heart rate, for calories and zones.
Calculations always use the app's own body data. Health fills empty fields; if a value in Health differs, the app asks once whether to take it. The app does not write body data back to Health.
“Log to Health” writes a workout to Health after each saved activity: sport, duration with pauses, route, distance per moving interval, active energy and elevation gain. The app does not write heart rate or steps, because iPhone and Apple Watch record them in Health themselves.
Apple Watch: During a recording, the Watch app starts a workout session. It reads heart rate and active energy and sends them to your iPhone through Apple's system functions. If “Log to Health” is on, the Watch saves the workout to Health (sport, duration with pauses, active energy, distance and elevation gain from the iPhone) and the iPhone adds the route; Health then holds exactly one workout. If “Log to Health” is off, the session is discarded and nothing is saved to Health.
Calorie calculation: The app estimates active energy. With heart rate it uses the Keytel formula (heart rate, weight, age, sex), without heart rate MET values (sport, pace, grade, weight). If the Apple Watch runs the workout, the app uses the Watch's value. Without a weight, the app calculates no calories. Heart rate zones use resting and maximum heart rate, training load follows Edwards. The activity detail shows which method was used. All values are estimates for guidance; the app is not a medical device and makes no diagnosis. Estimated cycling power uses your weight and the bike weight; it is not stored, not exported and not written to Health.
Where health data stays: The app stores heart rate, body data, bike weight, calories, heart rate zones, training load and perceived effort only on the respective device. They are never part of the app's iCloud sync (section 8), never logged, never sent to the developer and never used for advertising. They only go into an export file after your confirmation (section 9). For device backups see section 10. Data saved in Apple Health is managed by Apple Health; whether Health data syncs via iCloud is your choice in iOS Settings.
Withdrawal: You can turn off one or both switches at any time or change access in the Health app under profile picture › Apps › 12 Sports, or in iOS Settings under Health › Data Access & Devices. Withdrawal applies to the future. Workouts already saved in Health can be deleted in the Health app.
6. Other permissions
The app asks for each permission only when you use the related feature. All are optional; without location access no recording is possible, without the others only the respective feature is missing.
- Motion & Fitness: steps, cadence and barometric altitude.
- Camera: photos along the route.
- Photos (add only): only if you turn on saving route photos to the Photos app as well. The app does not read your library.
- Notifications: see section 7.
7. Sunset, turnaround time and notifications
For walking, hiking and Nordic walking, the app calculates sunset for your location on the device, without internet, and derives a turnaround time. Hints appear in the app with vibration. When the app is in the background, it schedules the same hints as local notifications on your device. The app asks for permission only when you start a walking sport with the “Turnaround Time” switch on or turn the switch on. Notifications contain no location and are not sent via a server. Turn off: Settings › Recording › On the Way › “Turnaround Time”.
Voice announcements (at your chosen kilometer or mile interval, on pause, after saving, via button) are generated by your device.
8. iCloud sync (optional)
Sync is off by default. If you turn it on, the following is synced through the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account:
- activities with route, times, pauses, distance, altitude, steps, distance uphill and downhill (mountain bike), name, note, tags, color marks and route image,
- route photos with location and heading,
- the settings units and auto-pause (iCloud key-value storage).
Heart rate, body data, bike weight, calories, heart rate zones, training load, perceived effort, weather at the start and goals are not synced. The developer has no access to your iCloud data. Storage and transfer are performed by Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy. If the same activity was changed differently on two devices, you decide which version applies.
9. Export and sharing
You can export an activity as a GPX or TCX file. The file contains your route with locations and times. Heart rate and active energy are only included if you turn on the switch in the export sheet and confirm the prompt for that export. Sharing from the activity list always creates a GPX file without heart rate. The share image (map, name, date, distance, time, ascent, pace) is created on the device and never contains heart rate, calories or notes. You decide where files and images go; the recipients' privacy policies apply there.
10. Device backup
Like all app data, your activities, photos, heart rate and body data are included in a backup of your device if you turned it on in iOS: in iCloud Backup at Apple or in a backup on your computer. You control this backup in iOS (Settings › your name › iCloud › iCloud Backup, or in the Finder). It is independent of the app's iCloud sync; the developer has no access to it.
11. Widgets, Live Activity, Siri and Apple Watch
Widgets, the Live Activity and Siri Shortcuts show or control data on your own devices, without coordinates. Data exchange between iPhone and Apple Watch uses Apple's system functions.
12. Contact by email
If you write to support, I process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request. I delete messages once they are no longer needed for handling your request, unless a legal retention obligation applies. Please do not send health or location data you do not want to share.
13. Legal bases
- Recording, location, motion data, map, place names, photos, export: providing the features you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); access to the device where strictly necessary (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).
- Heart rate, body data and values calculated from them, reading from and writing to Apple Health: your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by turning on the respective switch and granting access in iOS.
- Optional iCloud sync and notifications: consent or turning on the feature (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
- Support requests: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR.
You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (sections 5, 7, 8).
14. Recipients and transfers to third countries
The developer receives no data from the app. The only recipient is Apple, and only in these cases: map tiles, place names (with the “Place” suggestion and for the weather), the weather with a rounded location (Apple Weather, can be turned off), Apple Health on your device, the optional iCloud sync and a device backup you turned on. Apple may also process data in the USA. Apple Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. There is no disclosure to other third parties, no sale and no use for advertising.
15. Retention and deletion
- Data on the device: until you delete it. Delete single activities in the detail view; “Delete All Data on This Device” (Settings › iCloud › This Device) resets the app on this device. Deleting the app removes all app data from the device.
- Data in iCloud sync: until you delete it. “Delete Everything, Including iCloud” removes it from your iCloud account and then from the device. The two settings in iCloud key-value storage (units, auto-pause) remain.
- Workouts in Apple Health: remain in Health until you delete them there, even after deleting the app.
- Device backups: according to iOS rules, until the backup is replaced or deleted.
- Support emails: see section 12.
16. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3)). Since the data is on your devices and in your own iCloud account, you can exercise most rights directly in the app: view, edit, export as GPX/TCX and delete. The developer holds no data from the app and therefore cannot provide information about app content; for support emails, contact support@onetwoapps.com.
You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is responsible for the controller.
17. Obligation to provide data
Using the app and granting any permission is voluntary. Without location access the app cannot record a route; without Health access it shows no heart rate and calculates calories without heart rate or, without a weight, not at all.
18. Changes
If the app changes in a way that affects processing, I will update this policy.
- 1.0 (November 2026): first published version for OneTwo Sports (“12 Sports” on your home screen). It combines the earlier drafts for OneTwo Running and OneTwo Bike: cycling sports with bike weight and estimated power, perceived effort, weather from Apple Weather with a rounded location, emergency strip with locally stored numbers.
